HMEA Board of Directors Search & Commitment
HMEA is a dynamic human services organization seeking to recruit members to its Board of Directors. Founded in 1961, HMEA (Horace Mann Educational Associates) is named after Horace Mann, born in Franklin Massachusetts, where the agency has its headquarters. He said, “Be ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity.”
HMEA currently serves over 4,000 children and adults with developmental disabilities (such as autism, cerebral palsy, and Down syndrome), ages 1 to 91, in 110 communities. The agency operating budget is $40 million and employs more than 650 staff.
The Board of Directors provides high level advice and direction to the Executive Team regarding strategic planning and tactics in order to carry out the mission and continuously improve as a high performing non-profit.
At this time, we are looking for people who want to make a difference by helping others in their areas of skills and interests including, but not limited to: Human Resources; Public Relations and Marketing; Business Development; Development/Fundraising; Managed Care; Law and Finance.
Meetings: There are nine meetings a year on the fourth Thursday of the month in Franklin and may also be Committee assignments. Standing committees are Finance, Executive, Governance and Development.
Commitments: The primary commitments are of time, talent and touch. It is expected that 100% of the Board give to the Annual Appeal and/or participate in the 5K; however, amounts vary and there is no specific expectation; share their expertise and knowledge in the respective field of practice and also act as ambassadors of HMEA.
